As of today, Buick has announced a performance version of the new midsize Regal Sportback hatchback model called the GS. The 2018 Buick Regal GS will add a V6 engine to the model’s lineup and will have a starting price of $39,990. With all the other helpful and innovative features on this model, that’s quite a bargain. Let’s take a look at what the GS has to offer.
To set the record straight, Buick is saying goodbye to the Regal as a sedan and introducing two new body types for 2018 – the Regal TourX wagon and the hatchback made to look like a coupe, Regal Sportback. The GS, which is part of the Regal Sportback trim options, ditches the base model standard 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine and upgrades to the impressive 3.6-liter direct-injection V6 that earns 310 horsepower and 282 lb-ft of torque. The upgraded engine receives an upgraded transmission to match, going up to a nine-speed automatic that’s smooth and supple. The GS is zippy, agile, and even efficient thanks to Buick’s cylinder deactivation and start/stop technology.
“I felt the GS should have a different powertrain,” said Duncan Aldred, vice president, Global Buick and GMC. “We had the opportunity to do it. I wanted to add more performance, make it more authentic,” he said, by which he meant garnering more horsepower with a V6 than with the inline four. “We wanted a halo model and to be a halo you have to do it properly.”
From the driver’s seat, you’ll enjoy heated and cooled massaging performance seats with an optional color heads-up display. The 8.0-inch high-resolution color touchscreen is driver-centric and sports compatibility with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to keep you and your passengers informed and entertained for the whole ride. There is an additional 8.0-inch re-configurable cluster screen standard for the GS to keep all the information you want right in front of you.
The Regal GS will come with Buick’s Driver Confidence II package which includes Adaptive Cruise Control with Front Automatic Braking to help you avoid unwanted situations earlier. And thanks to the Safety Seat Alert, Side Blind Zone Alert with Lane Change Alert, and Rear Cross-Traffic Alert you’ll have visibility in ways that you’ve never experienced before. Buick puts your safety first and continues to push boundaries to improve the technology that gets you where you need to go.
The new 2018 Regal models will be out later next year. However, you can get to know the Regal now by taking a look at our current inventory then test drive your preferred model today!
